Orientation week is well and truly behind and the freshers have taken over the village and campus. Our little international bubble has broken and we really need to start to survive on our own in the city, at the uni and union. No more lovely (and they were really lovely) orientation assistants to help you out. And top of everything I got the freshers' flu even before they got here, bloody freshers!
Orientation week started on monday but I arrived on sunday. So on sunday there wasn't loads of things happening. There was walks to the city centre, to botanical gardens, to Broomhill etc. I unbacked my stuff and took part to city center/uni walk. Sunday night went on with few drinks at Stephenson hall's bar. (Quite handy to have a bar in the building next your's!)
On the city walk on sunday.
On monday there was official registration and internet registration. All that took about 1,5 hours (mostly cause of the queuing) and the rest of the day was free. Me and some of the girls went to do some shopping in the city centre (got my duvet and pillow!). The night again included drinks at Stephenson hall's bar.

Memories about tuesday are bit lost. Not cause of the previous night but more cause there was so many info sessions and the tiredness took over. On the evening we had quiz night which was really interesting and I met new people. I'm really proud of myself know (guessing) that the other Sheffield's football team is called Sheffield Wednesday. After the quiz night I fooled Denise to go 24/7 shop with me while the others were preparing her surprise b-day party. We totally surprised her :D

On wednesday morning there was more info sessions. Around noon we left for the Chatsworth house trip and it took the rest of the afternoon. Wednesday night was supposed to be early night in, but I went for a drink at the bar.
The first building of the university the Firth Court. Looks much nicer than Jyväskylä's uni buildings..
On thursday we had more info sessions. Me and Iris skipped some of those to go to the city center and fix our bank accounts. It was really quick and easy compared to what I've heard about opening a bank account in UK. There was also treasure trail hunt around the city but we skipped it and headed home to get ready for the night. We went to students union where we danced and drunk the night away till we walked home around 3 am. Cold, tired but very happy.
Part of the up route to Glossop road.
Friday started with information fair and fixing things. We girls got ourselves personal alarms (makes a quite nice noise) and gave feed back about orientation program. On the evening we had the Orientation dinner in the Octagon Centre. It was nice to meet new people, wine and dine in good company and dance to night away again. After the night in heels (and walking back home in heels) my feet were killing me. What could have been better way to end the orientation week?
